F1 British Grand Prix 2025

England is often called the birthplace of Formula 1 because the very first Formula 1 Grand Prix was held there, over half a century ago. Silverstone remains one of the most anticipated race weekends on the calendar, as it offers a challenging track that demands a lot from the drivers.
The circuit guarantees fast straights, technical sections, and, above all, a lot of speed. Even though the track has undergone significant renovations in recent years, it still retains the high-speed nature of the original layout. The first sector of the track might slow things down a bit, but the current cars offer so much grip that the overall average speed has only increased. Additionally, the hairpin provides excellent overtaking opportunities.

GP Great Britain 2024 results

2024 brought along an action-packed British Grand Prix. It would be an all British lock-out for the top three on the grid, with Russell lining up in front of Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren driver Lando Norris. With a rain cloud passing over the Silverstone track midway through the race, teams had to act quickly and pit for Intermediates. Norris was leading ahead of Hamilton and McLaren teammate Piastri. Russell’s luck was up as he retired on Lap 39 of the race. As the track dried once more it would be Hamilton’s Mercedes that came alive after a slow stop for Norris. The seven-time world champion claimed victory on home soil after a difficult opening part of the season. Verstappen finished in second place with Norris ultimately dropping to third place.

Lewis Hamilton at the British GP

The British racing legend Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver around the Silverstone Circuit in F1 history, with nine victories and fifteen podium finishes. In fact, these stats make the 40-year-old F1’s most successful driver at their home Grand Prix as well. It could be said Lewis truly holds a special bond with his home circuit. By now, the pitstraight has even been named after the Ferrari driver.
One of the Brit’s most memorable races in the UK was the 2008 edition, in qualifying for the British Grand Prix Hamilton only managed fourth place. On Sunday, however, rain bucketed down onto the racetrack and a young and eager Lewis went flying around the circuit. He lapped the entire field apart from the podium finishers, his closest rival, Felipe Massa, finished 1 minute and 8 seconds behind the Brit, who would become world champion for the first time later that year.
